FSO Abu is located 200 km from the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia at block PM-8 PSC (Abu Cluster field). The field is operated by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) and the facilities consist of a Satellite Platform Abu A and a Floating, Storage and Offloading vessel (FSO). There are contingencies for possible future tie-ins to Abu Kecil and Bubu. FSO Abu is owned by MISC Berhad, but is operated by FPSO Ventures Sdn Bhd (FVSB). Conversion of the tanker “MT Armata” was undertaken by Malaysian Maritime Heavy Engineering (MMHE) at their Malaysian yard and was completed and towed offshore on 27th February 2007. The FSO was installed at location on 3rd March 2007 about 2 km north west of Abu-A MiRIPP platform. First oil was achieved in May 2007. The FSO is turret moored at water depth of 70 meters. She has 11 cargo oil tanks with a maximum capacity of 95,789 m³ (two designated as production tanks) and two slops tanks of 5,600 m³. The FSO is equipped with a facility to tandem moor offtake tankers at her stern. Her designed loading rate is 30,000 bbl/day, and offloading rate is 20,000 bbl/hr. The FSO is designed to accommodate tankers of between 60,000 and 150,000 SDW T.
